The WW X TRI returned to its roots for the season finale at the stunning Paul Clüver Family Wines this past weekend, closing out its 10th year with a record-breaking turnout. With nearly double the entries compared to 2023, the event showcased just how far it has come, from a corporate team-building activity to an unmissable day out for families and athletes alike.
Nestled in the heart of the Elgin Valley, the Paul Clüver venue, where it all began a decade ago, offered participants spectacular views and a challenging course. From adrenaline-pumping triathlon races to family-friendly walks, there was something for everyone.
In a race that had the crowd on the edge of their seats, U18 year old Anthony Clayton put in a blistering performance in the WW X TRI LITE, finishing the 400m swim, 10km ride and 5km run in just 57:39. Hot on his heels was last year’s champion, Wynand Hofmeyr, who crossed the line in 59:09 and was heard saying, “That was fast!”. In the ladies race Anngelique Coetzer comfortably took first place in a time of 1:14:06. Incredible racing from these athletes
The WW X TRI FULL saw David Sher take the top spot in the men’s race, with his brother Jamie Sher hot on his heels while the women’s title went to Steffi Steinberg, a seasoned competitor and 2017 Ultraman World Champion. Alexandra Reid and Robyn Williams, both of whom are no strangers to the WW X TRI podiums, finished in 2nd and 3rd place with incredible race times!
The 15km and 5km trail runs saw the highest number of entrants than ever before with a great turnout from local Cape Town running groups like Must Love Hills and Chicks Who Trail. The December sun made the run a little bit tougher, but the ice-cold Jack Black beers were well-received after each race.

The event wasn’t just about crossing the finish line, it was also about giving back. All proceeds from the WW X TRI go to the Woolworths Trust, which supports impactful community projects.
This sense of community spirit was evident throughout the day, as families, friends, and competitors came together to enjoy the sunshine, stunning scenery, and camaraderie.
The WW X TRI isn’t slowing down. The next stop on the calendar is the Karkloof event in March 2025, promising yet another unforgettable experience in a breathtaking setting.

As the final event of the year, the Paul Clüver leg of the WW X TRI was a fitting celebration of the series’ growth over the past decade. It served as a reminder of what makes this event so special, inclusivity, excitement, and a deep connection to the places it calls home.
